By Warren McNeil,
Elmira native and best-selling author Malcolm Gladwell (Wikipedia) is coming home for a pair of fundraisers to support the Woolwich Councelling Centre . WCC an agency that serves the Woolwich, Wellesley and surrounding areas.
Here are the particulars of the event see also http://www.woolwich.ca/en/newsevents/Events.asp
The following information about Malcolm Gladwell is from his blog.
I’m a writer for the New Yorker magazine, and the author of two books, “The Tipping Point: How Little Things Make a Big Difference” and “Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking.” I was born in England, and raised in southwestern Ontario in Canada. Now I live in New York City.
My great claim to fame is that I’m from the town where they invented the BlackBerry. My family also believes (with some justification) that we are distantly related to Colin Powell. I invite you to look closely at the photograph above and draw your own conclusions.
Here are some of the books that he has written:
I will be attending the event at Floradale Mennonite Church with Melanie and some friends. This should be a terrific evening and I am really looking forward to it.
For ticket information, see http://www.woolwich.ca/en/newsevents/Events.asp

A year has gone by and another Sapfest has come to pass. I went to the Elmira Syrup festival today. I didn’t feel the crowd was as big this year as it was the past couple years. Last year you could barely move on the street. This year, there were a few empty pockets on the street. I think the reduced crowd mostly had to do with the cold and overcast weather. I find it amazing how big this event is in our little town. The volume of people that visits Elmira on Sapfest is just incredible.
I enjoyed the usual stuff; you know, apple fritters, back bacon on a bun and last but not least, pancakes! We usually walk up and down the street and look at all the vendors. It’s hard to resist all the different food options. Today was definitely the day not to be worried about the calories.
I am not sure what my favourite part of the festival is. Each year I enjoy something different. It’s really nice bumping into friends and acquaintances. I think that is what I enjoyed the most this year.
All and all it was a great time and I am looking forward to 2010.

One of my favourite days of year is quickly approaching. That day is when the Elmira Syrup Festival takes place. This year it taking place on April 4. 2009.
See http://www.elmiramaplesyrup.com/
Every year there seems to be more people and food choices. I often eat my way up and down the street trying out all the different food options. I have to say that my favourite foods are the Lions Apple Fritters, buggy wheels, pancakes and back bacon on a bun.
It’s simply amazing how many people attend the festival. If you have never been, I highly recommend it.
