By Warren McNeil,
Well my favourite time of year is just about to arrive. It’s not Christmas, its not my birthday, its Ribfest.. If
you like eating food off of a paper plate, sampling craft beers and watching live entertainment, then come out to Victoria Park this weekend July 16-18. Mel and I will be there at least once and maybe even twice. I am really happy that Ribfest comes to Kitchener. I can remember a few years ago that we had to go to Guelph to get to ribfest. Check out this link for lots of pictures by the moderator, Urban Waterloo.
I have been to about 4 different Ribfests. I love these events because it reminds me of the US south. I love BBQ. When we travel through South Carolina, Georgia and Florida I love eating at the BBQ restaurants.
I am also excited to mention that we have a listing which is only about half a block away from Victoria Park. What a convenient location if somebody wanted to enjoy future Ribfests or other events at Victoria Park. Check out our listing at 169 Joseph St in downtown Kitchener.
Victoria Park is awesome and is surrounded by many historic houses.
If you are looking for something to do this weekend and want to enjoy some great food and beer, checkout Downtown Kitchener Ribest and Craft Beer Show this weekend…

By Warren McNeil,
For the past three days the weather here in Waterloo area has been extremely warm. Yesterday I got into my car and pressed the outside temperature button. The temperature registered at 109F. My vehicle had been sitting for a couple of hours so when I started driving the temperature dropped to 100 degrees. The forecast all week has been in the 30′s. We measure in Celsius so that is 30 degree Celsius. Then you need to factor in the humidity which makes it feel more like 45degrees. Now I know what it must have been like for Les Stroud (Survivorman) when he was in the desert. His temperatures reached up to 60degC….
One thing that bothered me the other day was some people who left their dogs in their car while they ate at a restaurant. They checked on them frequent enough but I don’t think they should have left the dogs without air conditioning. I always hear these horror stories about young children and pets left alone in hot vehicles. I think it is ok to trasnport animals in a car but I don’t think they should have left them unattended for any period of time.
Last night I was watching the news and they said that one way to cool down is to submerse your arms up to the elbows in ice water. Brrrr!!! They say it is suppose to drop your body temperature a few degrees. Another option is to buy a bag of ice, and put the ice in wide shallow container.. Then setup a fan in front of the ice and turn it on. It will mimic an air conditioner. Kind of like a poor-mans air conditioner. I never tried this but it sounds like it would work good.
Well I hope everyone stays cool and thanks for reading!

By Warren McNeil,
I wanted to write a Happy Canada Day and July 4th blog post but I was away at the cottage.. Our cottage is in the Muskokas near the site of the 2010 G8 Summit in Huntsville. The Muskokas are beautiful this time of year. We had beautiful weather and the water was warm.
A couple of my favourite things about the cottage are the water and wildlife. It is not uncommon for deer to get close to the cottage because they are so used to people. Wednesday and Thursday night we saw some fireworks over the lake.. All and all it was a good time.. Can`t wait to go back!
So while I was away, the Ontario government implemented the HST tax!!! Time will tell what kind of negative/positive impact this tax will have.. I already noticed the difference in the gas prices.. On Wednesday gas prices were 92 cents a litre and Thursday they went up to 1.09 at some stations… That is huge! We will have to see what kind of impact this will have on the real estate market. I think as Canadians we will just accept it as is… What choice do we have! It’s not like we can boycott paying taxes… To quote Benjamin Franklin, “Nothing is Certain But Death and Taxes”.

Someday I want to celebrate the 4th of July in the US.. Its on my bucket list… I just need to time the vacation.. I think Vegas would be a good place to celebrate July 4th.. Vegas would be fun anytime but I am sure that they put on quite the show in the city that never sleeps. New York City would also be cool.. Where is your favourite place to celebrate July 4th?
Before I go, check out my 10 week old Chihuahua.. She was out of control!!!

Thanks for reading and Happy Belated Canada Day and July 4th!
