16 Million Canadians on Facebook

16 Million Canadians on Facebook

I was surfing some of my favourite news websites and I came across this article

Canadian Facebook users now number 16 million

According to the article 912,000 people signed up for a new account in the past month. That is an unbelievable amount of growth! Canadians are the 4th largest group in the world on Facebook. According to an article by the “Canadian Press” an estimated 47.9% of Canadians are on Facebook.

So how many users are on Facebook in total. The answer is in the following quote from the same Canadian Press article.

“Facebook now has about 465 million users in total, according to Inside Network’s latest report, and may be a few weeks or months away from hitting the half-billion mark.”

Facebook is quite a phenomenon. How big will the network grow? I guess one limiting factor are people without Internet access. On the flipside, there are more and more people connecting to the Internet through other means. They are using advanced mobile devices such as the iPhone, iPad and Blackberry. I wonder if we will be talking about Facebook five years from now or will we be doing something else. I think web 3.0 is going to really change the landscape of the Internet and mobile devices.

So how does this effect me as a realtor? I think the answer is simple, I need to be on Facebook because half the population of Canada is on there. Are you on Facebook?
