What is the Best Video Format for The Web?
By Warren McNeil,
This is a non-real estate related blog post.
Recently I read a letter by Steve Jobs regarding the fact that Apple refuses to support flash on the iphones or any other device that Apple comes out with. Letter was titled “Thoughts on Flash“. How does this effect me… It effects me because one of our websites utilizes flash and every single video that I create is a flash based video. I export my videos to FLV format. I use flash video plugins on my blog. This means I am going to need to switch everything over to something other then flash. I am also noticing now that Youtube recommends that video formats be MPEG-2, Mpeg-4 or H.264. This is a bit of a pain for me!
I guess HTML5 is suppose to be the successor to Flash and all dynamic content. I have read recently that Scribd ditches flash for html5. When I start seeing things like this start happening, I need to get my head out of the sand and follow. Hopefully it won’t be too difficult to switch over to.
I was never really a big fan of flash and now that it could possibly go obselete it bothers me that I ever agreed to implement it on our websites. The last thing I want to have happen is to have Google blacklist my site because I have a flash movie that is taking too long to load.
So I guess the question I need to ask is, what is the best format for me to export to when doing web videos?
Thanks for Reading!
